so if its under 5years i'd recommend heavy on bonds and us-fund, but you have to realize that under 5 years is a very short time so shit could go south in year 4 and 1 year might not be enough time to really recover.

for the amount you want to save for retirement/never touch then you need to figure out your specific risk tolerance. i'd recommend going heavy on us and international indexes and having no bonds since its a very long time horizon, but you will have recessions and deep crashes during that time and if you can't handle the -50% potential then you'd need bonds.
